About Us

The Leconfield Flyfishing Club is a private members’ club started in 1970. The club is operated as a partnership between the club members and the Leconfield Estate on whose grounds the lakes are situated.

The club offers seasonal membership to fly fish in one of the most private and exclusive locations in the South of England close to the market town of Petworth and the South Downs. There are reduced charges for husband and wife membership and two junior sections. Reciprocal membership of the river Rother flyfishing syndicate is also available at an advantageous combined price for members.

Members have exclusive use of nine lakes, seven of which are stocked with hard fighting rainbow trout and the other two with free rising brown trout with a resident head of wild browns. The season runs from about mid March to the end of October. On an annual basis the committee and the Leconfield Estate decide whether to extend the season to the end of November dependent on the weather during the hotter summer months.

The lakes and surroundings are beautifully maintained by a full time Fisheries Baliff and there is ample car parking and fishermans’ huts for recording and weighing the catch. Between 3-4,000 trout are caught annually by an average of 130-150 members.

Each of the three larger lakes are provided with a boat and flotation vests etc are available in the huts.

New members are introduced and proposed by current club members. In addition the club runs up to two 'bring a prospective new member' fishing days whereby new members can try the waters for themselves, have a barbecue lunch and avail themselves of an S& TA instructor if required.
